The Book I like best is “Three Days to See” written by Helen Keller, an American author, political activist and lecturer. I like the book partly because of the author—the courageous and hard-working woman. She was the first deaf and blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree. I like the book also because it offers us a different view on life—“to live each day as if we should die tomorrow”. It tells us to value and cherish what we have today, to appreciate the beauty of nature, to feel grateful to the warmth you’re given by friends and family, etc. 2)

I like reading, so I love many different kinds of books very much, because they not only broaden my horizons but also give me inspiration.

Up to now I have read a lot of books, for example, magazines, novels and storybooks and so on. But one of the books that I like best is My Life Story. It was written by an American writer—Helen Keller in 1902. She was a blind, deaf and dumb person. In the book, she wrote that she had not been able to see, hear or speak since the early age. With the help of her teacher Miss Sullivan, she began to learn to speak and write.

My Life Story described Helen’s hard struggle to become an outstanding writer and education expert in the world．

It shows us a universal truth：“Nothing is difficult if you put your heart in to it!” This is why I like it best.

My Favorite Hobby/ My Hobby 最喜欢的爱好

I have many hobbies, such as sports, singing, playing the violin and keeping a diary. I like sports very much. I go running at five o'clock in the morning. After classes in the afternoon, I play table-tennis with my friends. These sports have kept me healthy. At home, I like to sing and play the violin. I practice singing and playing the violin every day. Busy as I am, I am quite happy. Of all my hobbies I like reading books best. In my bedroom there are nearly six hundred books. I like many different kinds of foods. But egg is my favorite. Egg contains a lot of essential nutrients needed by the human body, for example protein, and is a very good source of energy. In the second place, egg is the basic ingredient to many dishes, with which you can make different food and dishes, like cakes, omelets and French toast. In addition to those mentioned above, eggs are easy to get. You can easily find eggs at any supermarket, and they are sold for a very cheap price too.

My favorite sport is basketball because it is very exciting. I like basketball also because the NBA stars play very well. Basketball is a good sport for our health. We can grow taller if we play basketball as often as we can. Besides, it can keep us fit.

I play basketball three times a week. Most often I play it in my school. I feel very happy when I play basketball in school with my classmates. Sometimes I play basketball on the playground near my home during summer vacations. Playing basketball is not so hard as some people imagine. But many young people dream to become big stars like Michael Jordan and Yao Ming, which is rather difficult because you should, first of all, be gifted and then have a lot of practice from early age in order to become very good player. 2)

I am fond of playing sports. The sports activity I like best is badminton. In my spare time I always go outside to play badminton with my friends. The reasons why I like playing badminton best can be explained as follows:

First of all, this sport activity is suitable for me. As a girl who does not like hard exercises, playing badminton can provide me with a good chance to do physical exercises. Secondly, compared with other sports activities, playing badminton is less restricted by other factors. For example, you can play activity either indoors or outdoors. What you need for doing this sport activity are only a shuttlecock (羽毛球) and two badminton bats. Last but least, this sport activity is of great importance for developing my cooperative spirit and strengthening my ties with others.

Just as lots of teenagers take to pop music, I love basketball. It’s part of my life. I began to play basketball in my childhood. My favorite piece of music is the theme song in the movie “Titanic”. The movie is a very touching and unforgettable love story, which sings praise for true love and sacrifice. My Favorite Season 最喜欢的季节

Among the four seasons, spring, summer, autumn and winter, I like summer. In summer, it is usually fine. We can put on fashionable outfits, for example, beautiful skirts and short pants and to enjoy the time of summer vacation. It’s cool to go to the beach, either to take sunbath or to swim. Although summer is hot and sometimes rainy, I like it. Another reason is that in summer the days are long and nights are short, then we can do a lot of things in the day. 2)

The place I want to visit is Beijing. It is the capital of China and it is a city full of cultural heritages and varieties. My Hometown

I come from a small city named Ruian, south of Zhejing. It used to have plenty of agricultural land but now the majority of arable land is occupied by buildings and roads. My Dream

When I was a child, I learned from TV dramas that one might realize his dream if he prayed to the full moon sincerely. One night when I looked out from the window, I saw the full moon hanging in the sky. I recalled the TV dramas, so I immediately prayed to the moon: may the world be peaceful forever. I even said my dream twice, afraid that the moon would not hear me. Now I smile at my childish behavior, but I still cherish the dream I once said to the moon. World peace might sound a bit ridiculous as an individual dream, but that has been and is still what I sincerely hope for.

We have studied in Songpu High School for several months. When I first went into the school gate and saw my new classroom and teachers I thought I would have a new start. The school life is very busy and exciting. There are many activities in our school, such as Sports Meeting, Science Week, Art Week and so on. We all take an active part in it . I have made many new friends and we often help and learn from each other in study. Our teachers have taught us a lot. They not only teach us how to study but also teach us how to be a useful person in society. They often remind us to develop good habits in study and everyday life.

Changes In My Life 生活中的变化

Honestly I haven’t thought about this much. The one and only great change I can think of now is leaving school. Look, after going to school for more than 16 years, all of my life has been so used to school, my daily schedule, my mindset, my social life, etc. The world outside the school

seems so familiar and yet so strange. My feelings are mixed with ambition, hope, expectation, as well as uneasiness, insecurity and worries. It is such a difficult time. I am like a person lost in the no-man’s land, not knowing where to turn. Anyway, most people have to face this change once they leave school. It is a total challenge. But just as one great mind has once said, “life is always full of changes and uncertainties; we just do all that we can and hope for the best.”

Changes in My Life

I have to admit that my life has undergone big changes in recent years, since I was enrolled in distance learning.

I used to relax myself when I went back home after work. Most of the time I would sit in sofa watching TV, and sometimes I spent an evening with my friends, either dining out in the restaurant or singing in KTV or visiting a teahouse.

However, I feel very much depressed the end of the first semester of my college year. I failed in two of my five courses. I realized I could no long waste my time. I made a study plan and followed it very strictly. Now I usually spend my evening time watching courseware or doing homework. Although from time to time I feel very tired after work, I continue my plan. I believe my efforts will pay in the long run.

Friendship友谊

Friendship plays an important role in our everyday life. It is right to say that a person who is unable to enjoy the benefits of friendship will inevitably feel lonely and even deserves our sympathy.

Generally speaking, mutual understanding, mutual trust, and communication constitute the most important prerequisites for the establishment of friendship. Besides, the old saying of “a friend in need is a friend indeed” best illustrates the true meaning of friendship. This means that friendship must be enduring enough to stand the test of some tough moments.

Happy Things in My Childhood 童年的快乐事情 Childhood is an important stage throughout my life. When I look backward, I can always find something funny and meaningful during that period of time.

Recalling my childhood, I feel happy and want to experience it again. At that time, I lived in the country and often played games with my friends on the farm. We hid behind the trees or some places where others could not find us, and then we would ask someone to look for us. All of us liked to play a game called “polices grab thieves”. We also liked to climb hills to pick some wild fruit that was delicious and sweet. Though I preferred watching TV with my brother to studying, I always did well in examination and praised by my parents and teachers.

My First Year at College 我的大学第一年

Whenever I look back on my first year at college, mixed feelings well up in my heart. On the other hand, I cherish this beautiful memory in my mind; on the other hand, I also feel a little

regretful.

At the very beginning of my undergraduate studies, I felt curious and confused about a completely new environment that was quite different from my high school. Deeply aware of the fact that study is still the most important task for undergraduates and driven by a dream of pursuing my further study shortly after my graduation, I studied hard in my first year at college. Every morning I got up early and read English aloud; I often studied by myself until 10 at night. My efforts were finally rewarded. I got the first-grade scholarship at the end of my first year at university. However, it was really pity that I seldom took part in any school or social activity when I was a freshman.

Now I often have such a dream that if I came back to my first year at college, I would study hard and never waste any opportunity to improve my other capabilities.

Television

Television has its good as well as bad sides. It makes us informed of daily news, lets us know the outside world, provides lessons for learners, and it has brought joy and interest into people’s lives.

Unfortunately, some television programs have been extremely harmful to the young. Violent movies are shown on TV programs. Children regard the murders as heroes or models, so they imitate. Therefore there happened many murders or shooting cases in American campuses. What a big harm.

So young people should learn to get rid of the bad influences of TV and learn to make use of the advantages that TV brings us.

About TV Ads

Today more and more advertisements are seen on the TV screen. It's difficult to find a program without insertion of ads on TV. In a word, whether you like it or not, the advertisement pours into your life.

On one hand I think TV ads bring us much convenience and benefits. For manufacturers they make their products known to consumers by advertisement, while for consumers, they can get from TV advertisements the first-hand information about new products, which enables them to make a decision quickly and to choose the one that they like best.

As far as I am concerned, I am in favor of TV ads because some of them are interesting and informative. But of course some of them are not trustworthy. Therefore, I think it is really

necessary to strengthen the control of advertisements and make them more attractive.

The Computer

The computer is fast, and rarely makes a mistake, while people are too slow, and full of mistakes sometimes. That's what people often say when they talk about computers. For over a quarter of a century, engineers have been making better and better computers.

Now a computer can do a lot of everyday work wonderfully. It is widely used in factories, hospitals, banks and universities. A computer can report, decide and control in almost every field. Many computer scientists are now thinking of making the computer \"think\" like a man. Living in the city or in the country is really a problem for some people because both of them have strengths and weaknesses.
