Creative Recycling After Double 11

Students at a design school in Wuhan, Central China’s Hubei Province had a lot of materials to work

with after the world's largest online shopping festival. They used the cardboard packaging( 硬纸盒包装)to make something creative.

Four of the students made a large, framed 3-D collage( 拼 贴 画 ) showing scenes from the 2004 Japanese fantasy film Howl's Moving Castle. They carefully cut out and folded pieces of cardboard to make the castle, characters, different scenes and even the weather.

Other students used different types of cardboard packaging to make different objects including models of a piano and a Ferris wheel.

Netizens on Chinese social media were pleased with the creative designs and praised the design contest held by a public benefit platform(公益平台), which many said expressed the spirit of recycling and waste reduction.

Over 500 million people shopped on Alibaba's e-commerce(电子商务) platforms on November 11th, the huge, annual shopping festival.

“Chinese courier companies(快递公司) and e-commerce platforms have promised to reduce the use of packaging materials, but a complete recycling chain and stricter rules are still needed to green the industry.” say environmentalists.

I need to arrive at work at 6:00 a.m.,which means I have to leave my house at 5:00a.m.. Yes, it is quite difficult to wake up at 4:00 a.m.. Our company sent drivers to pick up workers from their homes before 5:30 a.m.. But since we don’t have our own cars, drivers end up having to drive around to pick up the fifteen people.

A middle-aged worker always arrives at the office early. He usually gets picked first by the drivers. Since he usually travels at the same time, he happens to know the addresses of most of the workmates. So he ends up helping the drivers pick up the rest workmates. He is patient to direct the taxi drivers while also to call each workmate that the taxi is a few minutes away from their residence.

Yesterday, I was wondering how this person can do it every day, even though its neither part of his job, nor giving him any added advantage. Suddenly I came up with a very unusual idea that I had never done before. I thought, “This is a person who should be given a thank-you note, and maybe a gift. So I just wrote a card to him yesterday evening, telling him that he has a great attitude and that all the workmates really admire his act of service. Then, I put the note in a box, along with some chocolates.

Today, when I was supposed to hand my box to him, I was confused and felt a little afraid over me. Maybe it was because I had never spoken to him or I was not certain about how he would act―whether he would doubt my purpose. However, when he was getting out of the taxi, I thought, “I know my purpose is good, and that’s the reason why I should give it to him. What he thinks of it is his own decision. I should do what I feel is right.” So, with my heart beating fast, I handed the box to him. And now I feel happy. Maybe I made someone’s day today. 61. would have to clean out Dad’s closet (My heart was beating fast when my mom called and told me that she decided to move, it meant we 储藏室)nearly ten years after his death.

The closet is a years-long memory of our life. After Dad passed away, I would sometimes walk into that closet. There, I could remember the dad I had before he had a brain cancer. It was a place where I could still feel him and get some comfort. Later, I moved many miles away, starting a life elsewhere. And my mom still took pains to slowly evolve her home

--- sweeping away the dust of sadness, and making it once again a place for warmth and family getting together.

Would everything go away when Mom moved? Could I stand to see this closet one last time? Would I find the strength to help clear Dad's things out?

Then, a shock!“I had no idea!”my mom said on the phone,“I cleaned it out already.” What had she thrown out? Would seeing this empty closet cause me a breakdown?

I flew home at once, trying to keep my mind off it on the plane. When I finally got through the front door, I knew where I was going.

I pulled open the doors of the old closet, with my shaking hands. But what happened next surprised me: there was just peace!

Sure, Dad’s things were mostly gone, but just at that moment, I realized that I didn’t need to see it to remember what we had.

After all, the closet doesn’t make the man. Though those objects may help us tell a story, they are not stories themselves.
