Should College Students Hire Cleaners？
A recent report about several college students hiring a cleaner to do laundry and clean their dorm has become the topic of heated discussion. Those who agree with it claim it cost-efficient that these students payed a small amount of money for more time and pleasant environment so that they could concentrate and make better academic achievements. The opponents, however, argue that it goes against the educational goal of cultivating students’ living skills, independence and sense of responsibility.
I can’t agree more with the latter for two reasons. I am against college students shifting duty onto others primarily because I believe college is a time in life for the development of a responsible man. As the saying goes, “One can’t make a big success without being self-reliant.” So, only when we can do our business on our own, are we liable to achieve in others aspect of life. In addition, it is helpful if we can manage to squeeze time from studying for laundry and cleaning. This way, we become time conscious and learn efficient time management, which will eventually enhance our learning efficiency and even benefit our future life after graduation.
Since we can profit so much from doing laundry and cleaning by ourselves, why bother hiring others to do these? I am convinced that we will make huge achievement if we take responsibility for both our studies and life on campus.
